From Veronica Lake's head being the most dominant object on the poster, I can tell she has a leading role and from her seductive looks I can tell she isn't a nice character either. Her light smirk suggests she is evil and feels in power. Their names are bold and big, and stand out marking the actors importance and the title also stands out. The poster gives of a serious feel and doesn't give a hint of happiness. The fact that there is another man in the poster with her suggests they have something to do with each other in the film and that she dominates him. The billing block is very short and the poster as a whole gives quite limited information. We greatly rely on facial expressions of the characters when a poster is relatively bare.
The gun seems to stand out quite bait which suggests the movie contains violence and murder. Also, the woman being on the poster with him suggests a love interest or a vengeance. The womans dress and the title being red may suggest love or blood or even seductiveness as the position the lady is sitting in is provocative. The title isn't scary and bold, but fancy and gives a fancy and calming effect despite the fact there is a gun as it does not look threatening.
Personally, this is one of my favourite posters. The woman's face is filled with disgust and hatred and you don't need the tagline to tell you that she is evil. She looks powerful as she is obviously wealthy due to her made up well and her non-lack of jewellery. She also has a dominating and slightly depressed emotion on her face. The title is bright and bold and despite the colour of it being red, the poster doesn't give off a vibe of love. The tagline is interested and makes the film look interesting and also scary. The feel of the poster is dark and powerful and It has inspired some ideas for me to do on my poster.
